“Make It Make Sense” — My Thoughts on GLP-1s, Doctors, and Taking Control of Your Own Health

I’m seeing it more and more lately — family, friends, even people in my online communities — going to their doctors and getting flack for being on a GLP-1. And honestly… it blows my mind.
Even my own family doctor wasn’t thrilled about me being on one because of the “potential for lean muscle loss.”
Okay… but let’s be real for a second: lean muscle loss can be combatted with exercise and diet.
That’s something we should all be doing anyway.
But guess what?
Diet and exercise alone didn’t move the scale for me.
I was stuck. I needed help. A lot of people need help. And that’s exactly what GLP-1s provide — a tool, not a shortcut.
So here’s what’s wild to me:
Someone goes on tirzepatide.
They go back to the doctor.
They get a full workup expecting the usual cholesterol meds, blood pressure meds, and whatever else.
Labs come back perfect.
Numbers improved across the board.
And the doctor… isn’t happy?
Like… what?!? Make it make sense.
So let me say this louder for the people in the back:
If you come off a GLP-1, yes — the weight can come back.
If you come off cholesterol meds, cholesterol comes back.
If you come off high blood pressure meds, high blood pressure comes back.
Why is this only an issue when it comes to GLP-1s?
I wish more doctors would educate themselves instead of dismissing something that is literally helping millions of people live healthier, fuller lives. I don’t know what’s happening in the medical world right now, but I’m not willing to take everything they say as gospel anymore.
I’ve seen too many family members and friends be brushed off, gaslighted, or flat-out neglected when they trusted the system blindly.
So here’s where I stand:
I’ll use my doctor, but I’ll also use my brain.
I’ll do my own research.
I’ll make my own informed decisions about my health.
And I’ll support anyone else who chooses to do the same.
And FYI — if you think GLP-1s are only about “weight loss,” let me just drop this here:

You’re allowed to take control of your health.
You’re allowed to use tools that work.
You’re allowed to choose you.
